Bernie’s Bicycle Center began making history as the “family bike store” in 1948 on Paul Avenue in Trenton, New Jersey. Original owners, Bernie and Rose Knapp, later moved and expanded the bike shop to Hamilton Township in 1964. At the time, Bernie’s was one of only two Schwinn bicycle concept stores in the United States. Bernie’s was very successful and received numerous prestigious recognition for its exceptional selling accomplishments and customer satisfaction in particular.
Current owner, Tim Cannon, purchased Bernie’s in 1977. A devoted bicycling sport expert, Tim looked to expand Bernie’s successful family and recreational bike rider business by adding more products in the bicycling sport lines. Tim began to entice club riders, bicycling enthusiasts, racers, and tri-athletes by adding the premier bicycling company lines of Raleigh, GT, Orbea, Pinarello, Kuota, Casati, and Haro to the already successful Schwinn line. Under Tim’s leadership and direction, Bernie’s Bicycle & Fitness Center has received many awards and recognition, including:
